Girls practicing in support of Team Heshima

Heshima Kenya is proud to have been selected as a charity for the Chicago Half Marathon on September 12th!  By running with Team Heshima, you will be creating a lifeline of safety and hope for hundreds of invisible refugee girls and young women living in Nairobi.  The money we raise will provide them safe shelter and education, helping them move forward in their lives with peace.

PERKS FOR RUNNING FOR HESHIMA:

UPCOMING TEAM RUNS AND INFO MEETINGS:

We want Team Heshima to succeed and make training fun. Join us on the lakefront for team runs starting May 1st at 9:00 am on Montrose Beach.

We will be holding INFO SESSIONS to learn more about Heshima Kenya's programs, other running groups in your community and creative ways to make fundraising easy:

1st Session: Friday, May 7th, at 6A:00 PM at the Fleet Feet store, Piper's Alley location (1620 N. Wells, Chicago)

RUNNING DETAILS:
The Chicago Half Marathon is the only race in Chicago that gets to close down Lake Shore Drive completely between 67th Street and 31st Street. With this comes a price as all participants must maintain a 13 minute per mile pace.  This pace goes into effect as soon as the last participant crosses the start line which takes about 20 minutes.  For any participant that can’t maintain the 13 minute pace, they will be forced to the lakefront path in five different locations along Lake Shore Drive if they can’t meet cutoff time limits.

TRAINING:
As this is Heshima’s first running event, we are open to making our training efforts fun, successful and assessable to everyone.  The following resources will help jump-start your training:

FUNDRAISING IDEAS:
More than anything, your friends, family and colleagues want to see YOU pass the finish line.  In the spirit of supporting Heshima Kenya and your own health and determination, here are some quick and efficient ways to help you meet your pledge by July 1st:

    • Create a fundraising page for people to donate by credit card through First Giving (www.firstgiving.com)
    • Throw a house party or organize a spring garage sale with your friends
    • Give a presentation about Heshima to friends (write info@heshimakenya.org for presentation details and materials)
